You may remember the unique Acer Aspire R7 hybrid from its Star Trek: Into Darkness promo. Now you can get your hands on a very limited Star Trek edition R7 if you’re willing to part with some extra cash — but don’t worry, it’ll go to a good cause.Acer and Paramount Pictures have teamed up to raise money for The Mission Continues (which connects U.S. veterans with local charities) and Save the Children. While Acer has produced 25 of the Into Darkness laptops, only one is being auctioned off.The special edition R7 has been sandblasted and given a custom finish, and the Star Trek emblem adorns its unique Ezel hinge. A zippered Star Trek sleeve is also included, and of course the packaging has been given a Trekky makeover. The winning bidder will also receive an Into Darkness movie posted signed by the cast and director J.J. Abrams. At the time of writing, the high bid was already over $6000. Acer and Paramount are hoping that number will climb significantly higher, what with all the high-profile Star Trek fans out there. A press release for the auction namedrops Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie, and Richard Branson, so it may be tough to compete if the bidding gets intense. If $6000 is already too rich for your blood, you could always opt to bid on a signed poster instead. Two more are being offered, and bidding has yet to break the thousand-dollar mark. You could always try to snipe one of them and then head over to Best Buy where you can pick up the vanilla R7 for $999.Or you could always donate whatever you can to The Mission Continues or Save the Children on your own. You don’t have to participate in a themed auction to help out deserving charities.
