Last night brought the first of two Widespread Panic shows to the great Wanee Festival, just one day after JoJo Hermann spoke about the band’s plan to cease touring after 2016. Panic didn’t seem to acknowledge those reports, and instead put on a great show for the Southern festival crowd. The extended one-set performance featured some of the band’s staples, including “Chilly Water,” “Tall Boy > Shut Up And Drive,” a “Driving Song” with “Papa’s Home” sandwiched, and more. After closing out the set with “Ain’t Life Grand,” featuring John Bell on mandolin, Panic returned to the stage with two very special guests, Warren Haynes and Danny Louis. The two Gov’t Mule members joined in for a pair of ZZ Top songs, “Waitin’ For The Bus > Jesus Just Left Chicago,” as the songs appear side-by-side on ZZ Top’s 1973 album, Tres Hombres. The two songs featured some excellent interplay between Haynes and Jimmy Herring. The group closed out the show with “Bowlegged Woman,” and are set to do it all again tonight! Check out the full setlist below:Setlist: Widespread Panic at Wanee Festival, Live Oak, FL – 4/15/16Set: Chilly Water, Rock, Dyin’ Man, Tall Boy > Shut Up And Drive, Heroes, Give, Greta > Jam > Driving Song > Papa’s Home > Driving Song > Gimme > Sell Sell, Surprise Valley > Drums > Surprise Valley > Blackout Blues, Ain’t Life GrandEncore: Waitin’ For The Bus* > Jesus Just Left Chicago*, Bowlegged Woman (18 mins)Notes * w/ Warren Haynes on guitar & vocals; Danny Louis on keys[Fireworks display during ‘Rock’; JB on mandolin for ‘Ain’t Life Grand’][Setlist via PanicStream]
Today marks a sad chapter in music history, as the beloved R&B singer Prince passed away earlier today. As we continue to grieve over the loss of a legend, we turn to the healing power of music and explore a number of tributes performed by artists we love.Of all the bands in the jam scene, no group does covers quite like Umphrey’s McGee. The rock band always pushes the envelope forward, in both their original music, improvisation, and of course, their selection for covers. It’s not easy to cover Prince, as his vocal and compositional styles are truly unique, but UM mastered the powerful Purple performer’s song “When Doves Cry” back in 2015, at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN (the site of the Purple Rain film).Watch the band’s pro-shot “When Doves Cry,” below:Umphrey’s McGee is a band of many tricks. Known for more than just their original songs, the rock band has a reputation of bringing some interesting mash-ups to the table. On Halloween of 2013, Umphrey’s delivered a Prince x Blue Öyster Cult mash-up, combining the eternal sounds of “When Doves Cry” and “Don’t Fear The Reaper” with their original song, “Pay The Snucka.” Dubbed, “Don’t Fear The Doves, Snucka,” here’s how it all went down:RIP Prince. We’ll miss you.

I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking.” He later continued, “We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama. I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”Both Muhammad and Younge are no strangers to each other, as the two also co-produced the Kendrick Lamar track “untitled 06 | 06.30.2014”, which appears on the hip-hop stars untitled unmastered. album and features a guest appearance from Cee Lo Green. And if that song (listen below) is any indication, the Luke Cage score is going to be straight fire.Check out the Muhammed/Younge produced Kendrick Lamar ft. It’s no surprise that Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge is a fan of marijuana. After the band’s debut trip to Colorado last fall, Burbridge and the band members shared some fun snapshots of them visiting some dispensaries. It seems that Burbridge has taken his love a step further, teaming up with GroundSwell Cannabis Boutique to create “Oteil’s Egyptian Kush,” a unique strain of cannabis.GroundSwell posted a description of the new herb, saying:Boasting a sweet cherry flavor, this indica-leaning hybrid kicks off with a stimulating rush of energy and evolves into a body effect that sets you blissfully adrift. Oteil’s Egyptian Kush is ideal for losing yourself in a favorite song and grooving to the bassline alongside thousands of your closest friends.Burbridge shared a number of images on Facebook, capturing the GroundSwell collaboration. UPDATE: Automation is happening. Jamiroquai officially changed all social media graphics, and posted this confirmation video, hinting at a supporting tour with the caption “coming to a planet near you.” Check it out:It’s been seven long years since the lat Jamiroquai album dropped in 2010, and fans have been pining for more from the soulful acid funk band ever since. As 2017 marks the band’s 25th anniversary, rumors continue to swirl around the band’s intentions to release a new album, with some fans believing that new release could come within a matter of months.A lengthy forum discussion on the new album details the full scope of a new project, dubbed Automaton, with a list of 13 potential songs for the release. While this information is unverified, there are a lot of cues that point to its veracity. The first is the Jamiroquai website, which now says “We’re Making Some Changes” after being left untouched since 2010. Other clues to an imminent album release include a number of social media posts, like one from keyboardist Matt Johnson playing a mysterious vinyl acetate record. He eventually took down the post, assumedly because it fueled too much speculation.Bassist Paul Turner made additional comments on his Twitter, saying that it “won’t be long” before “everything is confirmed and made public.”The names of the potential songs come from an update to Jamiroquai’s holdings on ASCAP, the agency that helps artists receive royalties for the licensing of their work.
